Spring and summer are quickly approaching, and by now you’re likely considering what will stay in your wardrobe and what needs to go. It’s bound to be a warm spring and a scorching summer; what you choose to wear will influence your comfort in the day-to-day movement of life. In the northern countries, we’ve seen plenty of polka dots, pleated skirts, plaid, and scarves. Timeless trends that never truly go “out of style.” Here in the southern hemisphere, however, I sense the season will carry a slightly different flavour. This spring–summer style leans into preppy influences, with an emphasis on light fabrics and cool pastels that feel both effortless and refreshing.
Oversized Blazers: The hero of every outfit
The oversized blazer has secured its place as a timeless wardrobe staple, celebrated for its versatility and effortless ability to elevate any outfit. Season after season, it continues to grace the runway, and it will just as easily remain in our personal collections. Its simplicity is what makes it so powerful: a blazer can seamlessly enhance any look, whether styled with streetwear, paired with preppy pieces, or even thrown over everyday basics like sweatpants. A blazer can be exactly what you need it to be.
Ballet Flats: dancers on the streets
Flats or ballet flats are chic, minimal, and undeniably timeless. They’ve been in style for the last couple of years, and I don’t see them going anywhere anytime soon. Styling ballet flats is elegantly effortless. Personally, I love pairing them with jeans, a T-shirt, and a blazer to pull a look together. But they’re just as versatile with a simple skirt and top, or even wide-leg or straight-leg trousers. You can even opt for a small-heeled flat to give an outfit a touch of polish and make it feel less casual. The possibilities are truly endless.
The halter Top
Reminiscent of the 2000s, halter tops are effortlessly pretty. They’re the perfect piece for any spring or summer day, especially those late afternoons and Sundays spent lunching outdoors at your favourite café. Halter tops carry an easy sense of relaxation and feminine beauty. Pair one with trousers or a flowing maxi skirt, add delicate jewellery and a chic handbag, and your summer look photographs itself.
“Minimal” Floral Print
Nothing quite says spring like floral prints, and this season is no exception. But rather than bold, condensed patterns, this year’s focus is on delicate, simple, and minimal florals. Think breathable fabrics that feel as good as they look on the skin: cotton, silk, and linen. Expect to see these prints blooming across dresses, blouses, tops (even halter tops), and skirts. Florals bring a lively, feminine charm which perfectly captures the ambience of spring and summer.
