The Heritage Edit: A Look Inside the Thebe Magugu x Woolworths Collection

September marks Heritage Month, a time to celebrate and showcase the rich cultural diversity of South Africa. Marking the occasion, designer Thebe Magugu and Woolworths have joined forces for a limited edition heritage collection.

It is a fitting collaboration. Magugu’s recent work and ongoing Heirloom Project have long celebrated the distinct colours, stories, and essence of South African heritage. His designs capture a profound sense of self and community, carrying forward the memory and heritage we inhabit every day.

Rooted in Batswana and Basotho cultural references, the four-piece collection reflects these lineages through vivid hues and symbolic motifs, most notably the bold reds and blues emblematic of traditional Tswana attire, alongside floral prints inspired by classic South African textiles.

Designed for versatile self-expression, the wide-leg pants combine a fluid silhouette with a high-impact print rooted in memory and identity, style them with a minimalist top for a refined focal point, or pair them with the coordinating top for a full statement look. Joining the pants is a striking shirt dress that acts as a wearable canvas of the South African landscape, featuring a sunset-inspired palette and a dramatic handkerchief hem that can be cinched at the waist or worn loose. Rounding out the four-piece capsule is the printed scarf, an expressive accessory created to tie, twist, or drape your way, whether styled as a classic headscarf or an unexpected waist accent.
